How does it work?
Does it hurt?
+Not at all. The weld comes from a tiny electric arc that fuses the two ends of the chain together — you’ll barely feel a small “click”. A protective card is slipped between your skin and the chain to shield the area. Our customers are always surprised by how comfortable the fitting is.
How long does the session take?
+Between 20 and 30 minutes per person:
- 5 min — choosing the piece, the metal and the charms
- 5 min — adjusting the size and the length
- 5 min — the welding itself
- 5 min — checks, finishing touches, advice
If you’re coming as a group, allow an extra 20 minutes per person. We welcome up to 4 people.
Is it really permanent?
+Yes. The piece is welded with no clasp — there’s no opening mechanism. It’s made to stay on you all the time. If you ever want to take it off, it’s very simple: come back to the shop and we’ll cut it gently with professional pliers. That service is free and takes less than 2 minutes. We can then re-weld the same chain if it’s still in good condition.
How do you take it off?
+With nail scissors or pliers — it cuts in two seconds at home, painlessly. You can also come back to the shop and we’ll take it off properly. If the chain is in good condition, we can re-weld it straight away — re-welding starts at €5.
Can you go to the beach?
Shower? Have an MRI?
Yes, yes, and… almost. Here are straight answers to the questions we’re asked most.
Life with your piece.
Can I go to the beach, or shower?
+Yes. Gold-filled, 925 silver and stainless steel all stand up to water, salt, chlorine, soap and sweat. You can swim, shower and play sport with your piece on, with no restrictions. Just avoid abrasive products (bleach, acetone) and prolonged contact with perfume directly on the chain.
Will my piece tarnish over time?
+Gold-filled keeps its natural shine for a very long time with normal daily wear. 925 silver can oxidise slightly on contact with the air — a simple polish with a soft cloth brings it back to new. We can do it in the shop free of charge if needed — tarnishing is covered for 6 months by the warranty.
Can I go through airport security gates?
+Yes, without any trouble. Fine chains in silver, gold-filled or stainless steel don’t set off standard metal detectors. You can travel with complete peace of mind.
Can I have an MRI with my piece on?
+Medical staff always ask you to take off all jewellery before an MRI, permanent or not. If your piece sits in the area being scanned, it will have to be cut and re-welded afterwards. Always tell the technician about your permanent piece before the scan. Re-welding after an MRI starts at €5.
What happens if I gain or lose weight?
+Come back to the shop — we’ll cut the piece and re-weld it to the right size, or offer you a new piece with a discount on the next model. Re-welding to resize starts at €5.
Can my piece break?
+Our pieces are very hard-wearing for everyday use. They’re guaranteed 6 months against tarnishing (a change of colour) and failure of the weld itself: in that case, we redo the fitting free of charge. The warranty doesn’t cover accidental breakage — a knock, a snag, a chain torn off. Beyond 6 months, or in the event of breakage, re-welding starts at €5. Bring the chain back to the shop even if it’s broken — we can often re-weld the same one.
Your appointment.
Can I book for today?
+No — we don’t take same-day bookings. Every appointment is prepared in advance so you get the best welcome and our team’s full attention. Book at least the day before through our online system. Slots go quickly, especially at weekends.
Can I come without an appointment?
+We work by appointment only, so you never have to wait and you get our undivided attention. Walk-ins aren’t accepted. Book online on our booking page — it’s quick and free.
Is there a charge to book?
+A deposit of €20 is asked for when you book, to confirm your slot. That deposit is deducted in full from your final bill on the day of the fitting. If you cancel 24 hours in advance, the deposit is refunded, no conditions.
Can we come as a group?
+Absolutely — and it’s often a lovely moment to share. We can welcome up to 4 people as a group (hen party, birthday, a day out with friends). Book one slot per person or write to us at contact@aeterna-bxl.be to block out the studio for half a day.
Can I bring my baby or my child?
+Yes, families are welcome. For very young children, plan for someone else to look after them during the fitting — it means staying still.
Can I change or cancel my appointment?
+Yes. You’ll get a link in your confirmation email that lets you change or cancel up to 24 hours before. After that, the deposit isn’t refunded.
How much does it cost?
What are your prices?
+Prices start at €45 for a stainless steel bracelet. 925 silver starts at €55, gold-filled at €65. More worked chains, charms and pendants are charged extra depending on the model you choose. The €20 deposit paid when booking is deducted from the total.
I haven’t chosen my piece yet — is that a problem?
+Not at all. You can book before you’ve made your choice. We’ll guide you here among the chains, the metals and the charms we have. The session always starts with a moment of discovering them together.
Do you do gift cards?
+Not yet — we’re working on it. They’re coming in digital form, valid for 12 months and covering the full fitting with your choice of metal. In the meantime, write to us at contact@aeterna-bxl.be and we’ll find a way for you to give an appointment as a gift.
